Session 7 of the Virtual Forum Series: Gender, Diversity and Empowerment During The Covid-19 Pandemic
24 Aug 2021 9.00 AM - 24 Aug 2021 10.30 AM
The 2016 Indonesian National Women's Life Experience Survey shows that 1 out of 3 women in Indonesia have experienced gender-based violence. While stigma, intolerance, and violence against minorities are all too common, the United States remains one of only eight countries that has not ratified the 1979 Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). Several efforts from the government and activists have been made to champion diversity within various societal forces. The utilization of social media and web-based spaces also contribute to increasing the awareness of gender rights issues.
This webinar will explore gender-related views in Indonesia and the United States, discussing aspects such as health and autonomy, rights, and gender mainstreaming. Special consideration will be given to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the rights and well-being of minority groups, and how their needs and perspectives can be better incorporated for inclusive post-crisis recovery and forging safe societies.
