Myanmar is a country notorious for its problems with the issue of illicit economies, particularly in the drug trade. For instance, Myanmar is regarded as the world's most extensive Amphetamine-Type Stimulants (ATS) manufacturer and the second-largest opium producer in the world after Afghanistan. In the past few years, the volume of trade in ATS type-drugs, locally known as “Ya-ba,” has reportedly increased, unfazed by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
