Indonesian analysts have recently debated whether Indonesia’s handling of the COVID-19 management has been “securitized” or even “militarized” as military (TNI) officers appear to be at the forefront of both national and local mitigation efforts. This essay provides a preliminary empirical analysis of the patterns and extent to which Indonesia “militarized” its national and local management of the COVID-19 pandemic.
